Windows updates are often viewed as an inconvenience — prompting many users to postpone or disregard them. But these updates are important, because they frequently include patches for recently found vulnerabilities. Failure to update your system may expose it to dangers that have previously been resolved by Microsoft.
Such was the case of a small business owner who ignored updates for their Windows 10 computer, thinking they didn’t have time to deal with the restart process. Their system was hit with a malware attack that exploited a vulnerability that had been patched several months earlier. All of their business data was encrypted and they were locked out of their computer.
To check your Windows update status, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
